A du’a for beautiful character – free PDF :)

I absolutely love this du’a! (download it here). I discussed it with a few teenage girls in relation to Allah’s Names, Al Khaliq (The Creator) and Al Musawwir (The Shaper). He, ‘azza wa jal, shaped us in our mothers’ wombs how HE willed with complete authority and wisdom. Think about the wisdom bit. Wisdom in the colour of your skin, the texture of your hair, the shape of your nose. In absolutely every physical characteristic you possess.

We live in a world where the pressure to be thin, fair-skinned and perfectly put together is monumental. So I hope that this serves as a reminder that Allah has created each of us in the best way. And while we absolutely have to take care of our bodies, it’s our characters that need the most work.

There is nothing heavier in the scales than good character” – Prophet Muhammad (salalahu ‘alayhi wa sallam)

  1. I printed a few of these and put them on every mirror on the house. :)

  2. Beautiful dua! Few days back I was having this very conversation with my husband that you can’t criticize the creation of Allah. He is the creator, Al-Khaliq. If you look at anybody there features seem to be so thoughtfully shaped to suit them well and their personalities which if you were to change would seem rather inappropriate. Indeed there must be so much wisdom behind how he shaped each one of us. Though this is something we don’t have in our hands. But there’s a greater part of the personality that is in our control – our inner character. Outer Beauty fades over time. Inner beauty stays forever. It still needs more hard work like you mentioned above. Beautiful concept. Love how you brought up this issue with the girls in light of Allah’s names.
